Very little has been written about how to build awnings. However, you might check with the Industrial Fabrics Association International at http://www.ifai.com. There is a classic illustrated book, originally written by Ernest Chandler in 1914 called Awnings and Tents. It appears that it may have been republished or re-released in 1988, but is now out of print. Barnes and Noble shows a couple available (used), starting at a few hundred dollars! Amazon.com shows used ones available and it also shows the publisher as the IFAI (February 1988). If you can't find it online, we suggest you contact the IFAI and they may be able to point to other references. The ISBN number is: 0318015544. Let us know what you find! We hope these leads help.
