Assuming your existing stairs have plywood treads and risers (underneath your carpeting), you can simply nail the new wood treads and risers to the existing substrate, using a wood filler to hide the nail holes. Use a pneumatic nailing gun (finishing nails) or pre-drill with a slightly undersized bit and use quality finishing nails. Be sure to countersink the nail head below the surface. If you really want extra security, you can also use a bead or two of construction adhesive, such as PL400 or Liquid Nails in addition to the regular nails. This is how we did our stairs and they came out great.
