We're designing a new home with an electric heat pump. We would like to have both the delivery and returns in soffits mounted high on the 12' wall. What is in mind is a return duct about 6" x 18" flush to the ceiling, and hung to that the 16" x 16" (or whatever sizes are required) supply ducts. Is this a practical plan? We're in a hot area - Arizona desert. High summer temps as great as 118º or so, winter lows possibly 28º to 24º. The 1800 ft. living space will use a single 4½ ton unit.
