Re: mud tile over moisture damaged warped subfloor

A mud tile installation is generally the best way to go when dealing with an unlevel floor, however, it is heavy. Depending on the thickness and the tile used, it could cause additional deflection, compounding your problem.

We are more concerned, however, about the moisture damage underneath and what you're doing to alleviate and repair it. Allowing high humidity to stay trapped underneath will undermine the value of your property and continue to create structural problems for you.

To prevent tile from cracking, the floor should be very stiff (minimal bounce), otherwise you can expect to find hairline cracks in the tile and grout over time. We recommend a latex-modified thinset mortar and grout to provide extra strength and flexibility.
