Before we can estimate whether your proposed steel beam is sufficiently sized, can you be more specific about other loads that the beam may be required to carry. For example, are there any internal load-bearing walls that are carrying a roof load? If so, what kind of roof do you have and do you have any special snow or wind load ratings for your area (in PSF)? Specific information about the size and location of all point or distributed loads will be required before we can run some estimates.
