While extending our house we would like to do something about the damp problem caused from our house having been constructed with single brick walls. We had thought about a silicon coating applied to the inside of the brick wall before we the new insulation and plaster work is done. Would you consider this a good option? I have noticed these silicones don't last all that long, is there a better option available? To give you an idea of the problem, if we switch off the heating during a cold winter signs of water damage to the plaster can be seen in a matter of weeks. Last winter we were away for a few months and a large piece of an upstairs ceilings fell down. The roof is water tight. We had the problem inspected and we were told that it was all due to the walls.
