So long as the wood is clean and dry, you can prime it immediately. According to the manufacturer, "KILZ TOTAL ONE is a premium quality water-based stain-blocking primer. KILZ TOTAL ONE is particularly effective in blocking tannin stains which occur on redwood and cedar. This product may be used on interior and exterior surfaces, is rust-inhibitive, provides a mildew-resistant coating, is low odor, tintable and can be topcoated with oil or latex paint. KILZ TOTAL ONE blocks out most stains including asphalt, water, rust, tannin, wine, ink, pencil, felt marker and smoke stains. Some stains will require two coats of KILZ TOTAL ONE and over severe, water-sensitive stains, original KILZ should be used. Because of the variance in wood substrates, even multiple coats of KILZ TOTAL ONE may not stop the staining of tannin or rosins from all wood surfaces and knots." Builders Websource
