New 1 story house. Poured concrete foundation Basement remodeling. I would like to remove 1 post for a wall to post clearance of 18 ft. Center beam across width of house: Truss Joist Parallam 3 1/2"x11 7/8"x 36 ft with posts approx. every 9ft. Struts used in roof construction. 12 inch I beam joists are about 19 ft in each direction 12" on center and rest atop beam. There are no support walls directly on top of this area Can I reinforce this beam? Can I sandwich some type of metal support to each side and use bolts through the beam to secure it? There is about 2" of space on each side of the beam where it sits in the slot on the concrete wall.
