A few measurements in your posting were a little unclear to us. However, assuming the deck is made from Western woods, such as Cedar or Redwood, then the 12-foot span using 2x6 joists on 12" centers is not sufficient. Generally, the deck must be designed for a 40 psf live load and 10-20 psf dead load, excluding snow loads that might also apply. Assuming even the less stringent case of 40 psf LL and 10 psf DL together with a L/360 LL deflection, you would need at least 2x8 joists @ 12" centers to provide sufficient stiffness over a 12' span. Now, if you're planning to put a hot tub on the deck, this must be specially engineered to account for the added weight of the filled tub. We recommend that you add a third, middle beam (along the 18' axis) to provide center support to the joists. In this case, you can use 2x6 members on 16" centers since the span will be effectively cut in half to 6' instead of 12'. This should give you a plenty stiff deck. Be sure to make your footings large enough to support the weight based on your soil type. Typical minimum soil-bearing factors are 1,000 to 1,500 psf. Builders Websource.
