Just because an older home has settled with a lean doesn't mean it's about to fall over. Since your engineer has apparently already inspected the property and made a determination that the structure is safe (albeit out of plumb), this is probably your best advice. However, a settling foundation can be cause for concern. Generally, soil and drainage conditions, coupled with inadequate foundation design, are the causes for a settling foundation. There are a number of remedial steps that can be taken to shore up the foundation to prevent further damage. Eventually, if the settling gets bad enough, it can cause significant visual and structural damage, which would be a liability if you ever sell the property. Ask your engineer to make some recommendations to determine whether the costs involved are worth the expense for your given property. Builders Websource.
