I have a 24' X 40' ranch. The center beam in the basement is 3)2x10's nailed together with two metal posts holding it up. The center span is 16' between the posts and was sagging. After raising the house off the existing beam it straightened out immediately. I was thinking it was just faulty wood and would stay bowed. I made a new beam of 3)new 2X10's nailed and glued. Can they hold a 16' span between poles. Should I add more 2X10's and bolt together? What is your recommendation?
