My water main has sprung a leak in a 30 yr old house near Washington DC. It is currently 1” plastic tube. The leak is somewhere in the foundation. However the basement has no water damage as all the water is flowing out into the backyard. I have two options. One to dig another trench and lay another pipe from the water main into the house or run a ¾” copper pipe through the existing plastic pipe. One would require tearing up the yard and the water main entering the house through a bedroom in the basement. However, a plumber told me that due to the stresses on running a ¾” pipe through the existing 1” plastic pipe the copper pipe may start leaking in the future. Which one is the better choice or do I have a third choice. Thanks,
