Re: slight breaking noiseFrom: info@builderswebsource.com Category: Other/Misc Remote Name: 63.198.181.43 Date: 17 Nov 2002 Time: 12:45 AM
CommentsYou are experiencing creaking and cracking noises when your furnace is running. These sounds are typical of wood contraction and expansion due to changes in temperature. However, you are also seeing physical cracks in walls, and window and door components. This is NOT normal and requires closer investigation. It's possible these are unrelated. The cracks in walls may be due to foundation settlement or heaving, which can happen during the winter when the soil is wet. Since your home is only two years old, we urge you to contact the original builder, as well as the real-estate company that sold you the home. A superficial crack here or there isn't anything to worry about. But if you see cracks that are pervasive, this is a clear sign of structural movement that should be addressed as soon as possible.
