I want to shift an opening in a center wall of my ranch house. The opening is 8' wide, has a post, then a 6' window type opening. This center wall is 8" thick (was a factory built house). My plan is to come out 3' from the edge, add a half wall with a round column on top, span 7', a column, half wall for 3' then end. I end up with a total of 13'  vs. 14' for the total opening. Can anyone give me advice or special considerations I should think of?
