Your estimate of under $1,000 sounds about right. Of course, labor rates vary hugely from region to region. A structural engineer in San Francisco might charge 2-3 times the rate of an engineer in Alabama, simply due to the cost of living differences. Several years ago, we paid a few thousand dollars in the San Francisco Bay Area to do the structural engineering for a complete home, which included foundation design (pier and grade beam) and seismic load analysis, computation of 14 major beams, as well as all shear walls. You're doing the right thing, though, by hiring the engineer in the first place and we applaud you for this! Builders Websource.
