All of the pipes in you house contain water. After you turn off the water go to basement (or lowest point in the house) and open the faucet. This will let the water drain out from all the pipes in your house. After the water has all drained, be sure to close the faucet. After you complete your work turn the main water on. Be sure to go around the house and let the water run from each faucet to flush out any rusty water.
