Re: What do I do with SOILED STAINED hardwood floors

After moving in 3 months ago, I noticed damp carpeting in the bedrooms. I pulled it up and found that both have areas of dark, stained hardwood floors that smell of old urine. Everytime it rains or I use the sprinklers, the stains become darker and the smell becomes more obvious. A handyman cut a hole in the floor, and it appears there is no vapor barrier between the subflooring and the hardwood floor. Is there a way to repair the floors, or do I need to install totally new flooring--making sure that there is a vapor barrier installed this time?
