I have another solution for squeaking floors. What I do in the case of a second floor squeak when there is no acess to the joist is this. Find the joist in the floor, take a three inch gold screw and drive it in until the head is just a little above the surface of the carpet. Take a hammer and hit the screw from the side with a quick blow. The screw head breaks off at the level of the sheathing. What this does is the threads are in the joist as well as the sheathing, locking them from moving any more and thus stopping the rubbing of the nail which is causing the squeak.
