My plumber installed a washing machine in my upstairs bathroom and I was wondering what the code requirements are. He used a 2 inch stand pipe that attaches to the sink drain of the bathroom sink(several inches below the sink drain.). He also installed two shutoff valves with copper piping. It looks like he did a good job, but I am not sure if this is up to code for Virginia. The standpipe and the shutoff valves are not connected to one of those washing machine boxes that nicely hold the shutoff valves and the standpipe together. Please let me know your thoughts and copy a response to my email address. Thanks.
