My home is a Cape Cod sytle. I am opening up the walls on both sides of the dormer to increase the amount of space in the room. As a result I need to resupport the load bearing wall that I will be removing. The span of this former framed wall is 16 1/2' and it is only supporting roof weight as it's on the 2nd floor. I've gotten advise that a steel beam is the best option but I feel that a microlam should be able to do the job. If a microlam is the best option.. what width is suggested? Thanks.
