I plan on adding steps to a low deck (18" from ground)that will wrap around from one side (13 feet)to another(10.5 feet). Steps on one side will be set on the ground. Steps on the other side will be set on a recently laid EP Henry paver patio. I plan on using notched stringers for the steps, but I do not want to install posts on either side, esp. the patio side, to anchor the steps. Is it possible to "anchor" the bottom of the steps back to the deck posts with a 2x4? Also, what is the widest span between stringers that I can safely construct for this step heighth?
