I am building a deck over an existing cement slab. I live in the Northeast. The dimensions of the deck off the back of the house are 30' long by 16' out from the house. My question is how far of a span can I go away from the house and with what size joists without having to bust up the cement slab to pour footings and instal a support beam in the middle. Currently I have dug footings to support a beam at 15'(just over the existing cement slab). I wanted to be able to span the 15' from the house without putting a beam in the middle. Can I do that with 2x12 joists? Thanks for your help. DAve
