Have you ever asked questions and opinions from others when you fully knew and understood the solution to a problem, and asking was a way of not having to tell yourself? my structural problem is to difficult to explain. But , I have not seen much info online about rowhomes and such.....my house is a 3 story row, with an alley between my abandoned neighbor to one side.the alley has windows facing straight back at its begining and other windows paralell to the alley. the 3rd floor is only half of the footprint of the blgd. and then a roof in the rear. the exterior rear facing wall was brick, sitting on a beam at one time, but when i bought the place, it was in the basement. i rplaced it with a 2 3x12s and put up a stucco exterior wall,..... and now as i uncover more of my building i findbeautiful rotten lintels behind undamaged plaster, that support the cute little beam i put in. At least it only carrys a 15'x9' exterior partition and not 7 tons of bricks. Stupid maze of windows and lintels! Stupid old builders...underframing things....stupid me!!!!and i am amazed builders of old did the things they did=as all the openings for stairs were cantilevered and not headed off.. they had better lumber then, but it wasn't that good.......how may lintels can one replace in a lifetime..... in this house its been 7 so far....and the bay in the rears joists, the catilevered span is twice as long as the span inside the building. (not me)the lintel under that was probably the most fun yet. maybe i wouldnt complain if i live somewhere else!!!!I will quit cryin for now, but i would like to connect with older builders who have lived in the houses they fixed up....anybody esle out there livin in a shell?....with dsl? williamtelle@hotmail.com
