Cut through rim joist?

I am installing a new boiler into my house and the best (easiest) solution for venting appears to be to cut entirely through the 2 x 10 rim joist (I need a 9-1/2" tall x 7-1/2" wide holefor the stacked inlet and outlet fixture). I am a bit leary about cutting through the entire joist. On the other hand, everything is tied together (subfloor, floor joists, plate, foundation). Should I go ahead or should I look for another solution that does not require cutiing entirely through teh rim joist? Bill
