Ceiling on porch keeps falling

I have a fairly large screened in porch with an inground pond. The pond and the lake we live on generates moisture on the porch which in turn is making the ceiling fall down in pieces. It is not the drywall that is falling, whatever is "plastered", for lack of a better word, over the top of the drywall. I contacted a contractor to give me an estimate to fix and he spoke of something called HardiBoard. I know nothing about Hardiboard. Which would be better to put on my ceiling outside...Hardiboard or a tounge and groove style ceiling? If you recommed tounge and groove, what kind of wood would you recommed that is moderatly priced but will with stand moisture and HURRICANES?
